His Name Was Jason Savini Set Visit

One of the giddy tidbits you’ll discover about His Name Was Jason is that not only is Tom Savini hosting it, but that they’ve been filming linking vignettes for the FX legend to star in, which recreate key scenes from the Friday The 13th series.

You’ll be sure to write me off as a minutia-obsessed moron after I tell you this, but my absolute favorite part of the most excellent making-of documentary on the Jason X disc was how they had some actors recreate one of the early murders from the first film. Was likely due to rights issue with the footage, but the way they re-staged it and grained it up real good, almost Zapruder-like, tickled me to no end. Now these boys puting together the landmark doco on the so-far 12 lives of Jason, they don’t have any such roadblocks in regards to usage of footage. Yet they’ve gone the extra millage and mocked up memorable scenes for the camera and for Savini to interact with. It’s fascinating, frankly.

  1. Very cool! This documentary should be fun. I’m honestly surprised that Savini is doing it though to be honest. I’m not surprised he’s participating in the documentary per say. Just the fact that he’s more involved than simply getting interviewed. He just doesn’t seem overly fond of the Jason character as evident in various interviews etc. But regardless, I’m glad he is as he’s a very important part of the Friday the 13th world.

  2. Seems like they’re really spoiling us F13th fans with this DVD. Bring it on baby!! Can’t wait!!

  3. Yeah this really does seem like its going to turn out to be a real treat. I can’t wait!

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. I even found it weird that on The Burning DVD, he mentions how audieances are stupid for watching the sequels, cause in his mind, Jason officially drowned and there is no Jason murdering. I thought outloud “Whoa, now he does know he worked on the 3RD sequel, The Final Chapter, right?”. I can be beyond eccentric sometimes. Savini seem’t to be the type who has both good & bad days. Ah well.

This is all too cool, how things are shaping up. Nothin’ against Tom, by the way, as I was obsessed by his stuff as a young lad, but I hope that make-up FX masters like Carl Fullerton (will be ever see some stuff cut from Part 2? :( I mean even more pics and in his studio shop or house?, ect), the REEL EFX team, Kenny Myers and others who worked on Part 3 (I’m so glad the original fiberglass hockey mask maker is involved. God bless’em), ect.

Nothin’ against Tom, once again, but so many other make-up FX artists have toiled on the series, and honestly, I feel many don’t get the respect they so rightly desurve for the many long hours of work in FX shops. Anywho, just my own two cents.

    And Colin:

Right on brotha! :D Bring on this facinating and better sounding documentary on as soon as they can. I can’t wait.

  5. No doubt. Tom is awesome. I think he took the job working on part IV because he wanted to kill Jason off since he wasn’t that fond of the character. He really did do Jason in in probably the best way out of the entire series.

  6. savini has said that he sees jason as his frankenstein, and he did part 4 to destroy the monster he had created. im really happy about this tom is the man i start at his makeup FX school in a week and its gonna be a blast

  7. Cool, I’m really looking forward to this documentary. I guess it would be kind of fair for Tom to claim that Jason is his creation since he designed how he would look in the original Friday the 13th. I think he came up with an interesting way to kill Jason in the Final Chapter. I thought the way the machete struck Jason in the side of the head was well executed, and how his head slid down the blade of the machete was cool. It would have been cool to see what was left of Jason’s corpse after Tommy had hacked it up.

  8. i saw a picture somewhere of the aftermath of Jason’s death in part IV, its just a closeup of his face with the machete stuck in it and it really looks like a real body its creepy as hell.

  9. A short while ago, I heard that the new His Name Was Jason DVD was also going to have “Bonus Features”. Is it going to be a 2-disc thing like the Halloween documentary a few years ago?. Anyone know?.

Anywho, the more that’s coming out about this thing, the more excited I get. Not that I wasn’t already thrilled. Lol. These new scenes with Savini in them sound great!.

I would assume so. I also *LOVE* and adore that two-disc special edition Halloween: 25 Years of Terror documentary, I feel if it’s even halfway as good (and I’m hoping cause I’m a bit more of a Voorhees fanatic then a Shape one, for what it’s worth), then we’ll all be in for a real surprise.

Anyway, indeed, some of the same makers are behind it (like Anthony Masi, ect) so yeah, I would assume it would be in the same ballpark.

Like many, I can’t wait for this bad boy. The new film I’ll see and support, but cause I’m just more of an old school first 5 films Jason fanatic, I’m much more into wanting to see the His Name Was Jason documentary and to have the DVD once it comes out. I’ll probably pre-order it from Amazon once it becomes available. I just hope, with premiering on the STARZ channel, that it’ll be better then 2024 pedestrian and so-so made and untimately forgettable Falling to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film documentary was. I didn’t really care for that.

From how it’s shaping up, it should be very, very good.

  11. Im in the doc, getting Jason on my forarm. It was a cool experience.
